Guiding Good Choices Parenting/Caregiver Workshop

**5-week Workshop**
Greater Falls Connections is once again offering the “Guiding Good Choices” parenting/caregiver workshop in Bellows Falls. This workshop led by Deb Witkus, our Parent Outreach Coordinator, and Jamie Card, WNESU’s Student Assistance Professional, provides support and skill-building for parents and caregivers of kids ages 8-13. The class focuses on setting boundaries, monitoring, communication and dealing with conflict. Childcare and light food are available.
Classes run every Wednesday from 6-7:30 pm for five weeks starting October 16th. Register today!

Responsible Beverage Training

Responsible Beverage Training
Tuesday, November 5th, 2013. 5:30-8:30pm

Type of seminar:
  • In-person cashier training (second class) for retailers selling tobacco and alcohol products.
Purpose of seminar:
  • Educate persons selling alcohol and tobacco products and persons serving alcohol regarding their legal responsibilities relative to the product.
Description of seminar:
  • Students are instructed by a Liquor Control Educator on criminal and civil liabilities regarding alcohol.  Specific topics include Dram Shop liability, serving or selling to minors, recognizing intoxication, intervention techniques, fake identification cards, and general regulations.
Seminar history:
  • VT Department of Liquor Control (DLC) yearly trains approximately 8,000 sellers and servers in the state. Certified training is a statutory requirement in Vermont. This method has consistently proved to be the most successful method of instilling responsibility and demonstrating good techniques. A full listing of DLC trainings can be found here.

Composting Workshop

Community Garden Collaborative Offers Composting Workshop
Sunday, October 6, 2013. 1:00pm

As part of its continuing series of food security workshops, the Community Garden Collaborative will host a composting workshop on Sunday, October 6 starting at 1:00pm.

Because attendance is limited, pre-registration is required. Please call Tim Stevenson at 802.869.2141 to register.

The workshop is is free, though we always pass the hat for our presenters. Light refreshments will be available.

Through discussion, illustrations, demonstration jars, and handouts, the workshop will focus of the basics of creating compost for your vegetable and flower gardens. It will present various ways of choosing or making a compost bin or pile; the materials to put in a compost pile; various methods of composting; how to use compost to build up your soil; the benefits of composting; and the new state law regarding composting.

This workshop will be presented by Phil and Gloria Hammond, who are retired school teachers from Hartland, Vermont. They have been gardening since they were 4-H members and farm kids.Both have completed the Vermont Extension Master Gardener Program, and currently have 4 composting bins that they use to enhance their gardens, as well as make their own potting soil.

National Rx Drug Take Back Day

National Rx Drug Take Back Day

The semi-annual event provides an opportunity for residents to dispose of unwanted or expired prescription drugs. Drop off locations throughout Windham County. Locally, you can drop of your prescription medications at the Bellows Falls Police Department between 10am-2pm. Pick up literature and information about locking your meds and securing your meds.
